How does Al Nurah Academy work?
Al Nurah Academy is a free online platform that pairs students one-to-one with Hafidh-qualified teachers for Quraan memorisation, recitation, and daily revision. Students register, set their time zone, and are matched with a dedicated teacher. Lessons run live via a secure video link — no apps to install, no fees ever.
The platform supports three communities: students learning to recite or memorise, Hafidh and Hafidha who want to teach, and existing Hafidh seeking a Dhor (daily revision) partner. Every connection is one-to-one — we don’t run group classes — so the pace, focus, and relationship match each student.
While we are in our first phase, students who register are added to a secure waitlist and matched as soon as a suitable teacher is available in their time zone.
Is Al Nurah Academy really free?
Yes, completely. There are no lesson fees, no registration costs, no premium tier, and no payment details requested at any stage. Students do not pay for lessons, matching, or materials, and teachers do not pay to register or to use the platform.
Al Nurah Academy is a volunteer-driven community. Our teachers donate their time as a service to the Quraan, and the platform is operated as a sadaqah jariyah — a continuing charity for the sake of Allah. Hosting and infrastructure costs are covered by Al Nurah Foundation. We do not run advertising, sell student data, or upsell paid courses.

Who teaches at Al Nurah Academy?
Teachers at Al Nurah Academy is Hafidh- or Hafidha-qualified — they have memorised the entire Quraan. Each teacher is verified during the application process before being approved to teach, and many continue their own Dhor by partnering with other Hafidh on the platform. ** We also consider teachers who may not have completed the Quraan but have experience teaching Quraan.
Our teachers come from all countries and bring diverse backgrounds united by a shared commitment to passing on the Quraan with sincerity. The verification process includes proof of Hifz completion from a recognised teacher or institution, a brief interview.

The core differences are cost, format, and motivation. Al Nurah Academy is fully free and pairs every student one-to-one with a single, consistent Hafidh-qualified teacher. Most online Quraan academies charge USD 5–25 per hour and rotate teachers or use group classes. Al Nurah is a volunteer community, not a commercial service.

How long does it take to memorise the Quraan online?
Most students complete full Hifz in 3 to 7 years with 30–60 minutes of daily practice and consistent revision. Pace varies widely by age, prior knowledge, and consistency of practice.
Three factors affect timeline most:
- Daily commitment. Students who keep 30–60 minutes per day, six days a week, progress steadily. Inconsistent practice can double or triple the timeline.
- Age and starting point. Children aged 5–10 with no prior Hifz often take 5–7 years. Adolescents and adults with strong recitation foundations can complete Hifz in 3–4 years.
- Dhor (revision). Memorisation without revision is fragile. Students who pair daily new memorisation with daily revision retain the Quraan long-term; those who skip Dhor lose what they learn.
How much does Al Nurah Academy cost?
Al Nurah Academy is completely free. There are no lesson fees, registration costs, subscription tiers, or hidden charges. We do not ask for payment details at any stage.
Can I learn from outside South Africa?
Yes. Al Nurah Academy is a global platform. Although we were founded in South Africa, students and teachers register from any country, and the matching system pairs you with a teacher in a compatible time zone. All lessons happen online via secure video link, so your physical location does not affect your access.
What software or apps do I need?
You need only an internet-connected device — phone, tablet, or computer — and a modern web browser. Lessons run on Jitsi, a free secure video platform that works directly in your browser. There is nothing to download, install, or pay for.

What is a "Dhor Partner"?
“Dhor” (also written Dhour or Daur) is the Arabic term for the daily revision a Hafidh undertakes to maintain the entire Quraan in memory. A Dhor Partner is another Hafidh who pairs with you to listen to your revision and lets you listen to theirs — so neither of you loses what you have memorised.
Hifz is not a single event. The Prophet ﷺ described the memorised Quraan as more elusive to retain than tied camels (Sahih al-Bukhari 5033) — meaning that without continuous revision, memorisation slips away. A Dhor Partner solves this by giving every Hafidh a structured, accountable revision habit.
